Conectar base de dados mysql 4.1

Ola, nao estou conseguindo conctar com script php em um computador da rede da empresa que usa mysql 4.1, com ferramentas como mysqlmanager eu consigo, com php esta dando o seguinte erro:

Nao foi possivel conectar em base de dados 10.1.1.34.
